Republican John McCain’s campaign is trying to use the publication of stories about the Arizona senator’s dealings with Washington lobbyist Vicki Iseman to boost fundraising. The campaign is asking supporters to open their wallets to help “respond and defend our nominee from the liberal attack machine,” The Hill, a Washington-based political newspaper, reports.

Democrat Hillary Clinton spent about $15 million on consultants in January, with nearly $4 million going to chief strategist Mark Penn, The Politico, a Washington-based political newspaper, reports. From the beginning of the race through the end of last month, Clinton has spent a total of $33 million on consultants.

Republican John McCain raised more than $11.6 million in January, his best fundraising month so far, but his campaign ended the month owing more than it had in cash, the Associated Press reports.
McCain, however, continues to lag well behind Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in fundraising.
