Republican John McCain lags significantly behind Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in online fundraising, The Washington Post reports. McCain’s online receipts last month totaled just $3 million, a fraction of Obama’s $28 million (an all-time record).

Democrat Hillary Clinton helped secure more than $340 million in earmarks for fiscal 2008, according to the Taxpayers for Common Sense, a Washington-based nonprofit group. Rival Barack Obama’s earmarks for 2008 amount to $91 million, according to The Washington Post’s analysis of the report.
Republican front-runner John McCain, who opposes the practice, did not seek any earmarks.

The Reverend Wiley Drake, a high-profile pastor in the Southern Baptist Convention, says that the Internal Revenue Service is investigating him for using church stationery to publicize his endorsement of Republican Mike Huckabee, the Associated Press reports. Churches can lose their tax-exempt status if their officials endorse political candidates.
Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, a nonpartisan group whose “Project Fair Play” aims to “stop illegal church electioneering,” filed a complaint against Drake with the IRS.

Mercer Reynolds, a fundraiser for President Bush, has signed on as the national finance co-chairman for Republican John McCain, The New York Times reports. Reynolds boasts connections with the coveted Bush bundlers known as Rangers and Pioneers, a potentially valuable resource for the GOP front-runner.
