MoveOn.org will permanently shut down its 527 group, Talking Points Memo reports, due in part to Barack Obama’s urging that outside groups not spend money on the general election. MoveOn can still, however, raise and spend money on Obama’s behalf through its political action committee.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rules that the Federal Election Commission must buckle down on campaign finance practices and enforce the McCain-Feingold law, The Washington Post reports. The court asserted that special interest groups and corporations still had too much leverage on the campaign circuit, especially in advertising. New rules for the law will not go into effect until after the November 2008 general election.

Barack Obama is getting a helping hand as he lures churchgoers; The Matthew 25 Network celebrated its launch into the political action committee web on Tuesday with a fundraising event, The New York Times reports. The PAC has endorsed Obama and is targeted toward religious communities that stretch from Hispanic Catholics to nonconservative evangelicals.

MoveOn launched its latest television ad linking John McCain with the policies of the current administration, The Washington Post reports. The ad, starring actor John Cusack, cost the group only $45,000.
