After months of saying that he will not join the 2008 presidential race, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says it again. In an op-ed piece for The New York Times, he writes: “If a candidate takes an independent, nonpartisan approach — and embraces practical solutions that challenge party orthodoxy — I’ll join others in helping that candidate win the White House.”

Less than a week after Doug Bailey and Gerald Rafshoon abandon Unity08, their grass-roots effort to put together a bipartisan presidential ticket, the former political consultants announce that they will create an official “Draft Bloomberg” committee, reports National Journal’s “The Hotline” blog. Bailey and Rafshoon have not yet spoken with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but they say they will start raising money and “see where it goes.”
