Perfect Match

The Federal Election Commission has approved matching funds for six presidential candidates. Democrats Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, and Dennis Kucinich, Republican Duncan Hunter, and independent Ralph Nader will receive more than $7 million collectively for their campaigns, bringing the total of matching funds approved for the 2008 election to about $26.7 million.

Four’s a Charm?

Ralph Nader announces on NBC’s Meet the Press that he will wage another independent campaign for the presidency and pledges to take “no money from commercial interests, no money from political action committees, only from individuals.” The three-time former candidate promises to be “Mr. Frugal” without the “huge waste on political consultants who have really messed up Hillary Clinton’s campaign.”

Ralph Nader, a three-time presidential candidate, launches a 2008 exploratory committee. Its website offers donors two DVDs (one of them a documentary about Nader) and three books “destined to become classics” in exchange for a $300 contribution.
