Nit-Picky Pickens
BY Sarah Laskow | June 26, 2008
A group of Vietnam veterans are still fighting against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign that questioned John Kerry’s war record in 2004. The vets sent a letter to T. Boone Pickens, the Texas oilman who funded the Swiftees, rebutting several of the accusations against Kerry, The New York Times reports.
Last November, Pickens offered $1 million to anyone who could disprove even one of the group’s claims. But Kerry says that Pickens has since modified the challenge by narrowing the field to claims made in the Swift Boat Veterans’ TV ads, not in their more incendiary book or documentary.
UPDATE: Big surprise — Pickens says Kerry’s pals won’t be getting the reward money.
