No PAC–Men
BY Sarah Laskow | November 02, 2007
Democrats John Edwards and Barack Obama make a point of saying that they don’t accept contributions from political action committees, but the gestures don’t mean all that much, The Politico, a Washington-based political newspaper, reports. The $2.6 million that PACs have given to the major presidential candidates this year accounts for only 0.7 percent of their receipts. Hillary Clinton has accepted $747,000 in PAC money, the most of any candidate, but it makes up less than 1 percent of her total contributions.
Experts say that PACs prefer to place their bets on congressional races, where they get a bigger bang for the buck.
