Alan Keyes - Independent

Nominee

Alan Keyes is making his third bid for the Republican presidential nomination, having also run in 1996 and 2000. He was Ronald Reagan’s assistant secretary of state for international organizations from 1985 to 1988. Before that, he was ambassador to the U.N. Economic and Social Council.  He has run for the U.S. Senate three times, twice in Maryland and once in Illinois.  His wife, Jocelyn Marcel Keyes, has run a soup kitchen in Maryland.

Presidential Campaign

Keyes filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elecion Commission on September 14, 2007. In March 2008, he abandoned his campaign for the Republican nomination and became a candidate for the Constitution Party’s nomination. After losing that nomination on April 26, 2008, he became an independent presidential candidate.
