Bill Richardson - Democratic

Bill Richardson, a Democrat, is the governor of New Mexico. Previously, he was President Bill Clinton’s secretary of energy (from 1998 to 2001), U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (from 1997 to 1998), and a U.S. representative from New Mexico (from 1983 to 1997). Richardson is chair emeritus of the Democratic Governors’ Association. His wife, Barbara, is a civic activist.

Presidential Campaign

Richardson announced the formation of an exploratory committee on January 21, 2007, and on May 21 he declared his candidacy at a press conference in Los Angeles.  He announced his withdrawal on January 10, 2008.
