Bob Barr - Libertarian
Bob Barr, now a Libertarian, represented the 7th District of Georgia as a Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. In 2002, he was defeated in his reorganized 7th District by current Representative John Linder in the Republican primaries. He now practices law with the Edwin Marger firm and runs Liberty Strategies, an Atlanta-based consulting firm. Prior to his election to the House, Barr was the U.S. attorney for the northern district of Georgia from 1986 to 1990 and was president of the Southeastern Legal Foundation from 1990 to 1991. He ran unsuccessfully for the Georgia State House in 1984 and the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in 1992. His wife, Jeri Barr, is the CEO of the Center for Family Resources, a human services organization funded by the United Way.

Barr served as vice-chairman of the Government Reform Committee and was a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Committee on Financial Services. He was also one of the managers of the 1998 impeachment proceedings of President Bill Clinton.
Presidential Campaign
Barr announced the formation of his exploratory committee on April 5, 2008, at the Heartland Libertarian Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. He formally announced his candidacy on May 12, 2008, and secured the Libertarian Party nomination at their convention on May 25, 2008.
