Chris Dodd - Democratic
Christopher J. Dodd, a Democrat, is the senior U.S. senator from Connecticut. The son of a senator, Dodd joined the Peace Corps after graduating from Providence College and later, from 1969 to 1975, served in the U.S. Army Reserves and Army National Guard. During that period, Dodd graduated from law school and practiced privately in Connecticut. He was a U.S. representative from 1975 to 1981. Dodd’s wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd, was a Clinton appointee to the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
Committee Assignments
Dodd chairs the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and is on the Committee on Foreign Relations; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
Presidential Campaign
Dodd declared his candidacy on January 11, 2007, on a broadcast of “Imus in the Morning,” Don Imus’s radio show. He withdrew from the race on January 3, 2008, after the Iowa Caucuses.
