John Cox - Republican

John Cox, a Republican, is an attorney and investor. In 2000, Cox ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, and he later lost races for the U.S. Senate (in 2002) and Cook County (Illinois) recorder of deeds (in 2004). In 1981, he opened a law and accounting firm, and soon afterward launched investment, real-estate, and venture-capital businesses. Cox also formerly led the Cook County Republican Party and was on the Illinois steering committee for Jack Kemp’s 1988 presidential campaign. His wife is Sarah Cox.

Cox declared his candidacy on March 9, 2006.  He announced his withdrawal from the race on October 27, 2007.
