John Edwards - Democratic

Withdrawn button graphic

John Edwards, a Democrat, was a one-term U.S. senator from North Carolina and the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee. He is making his second White House bid, after seeking the Democratic nomination in 2004. For more than two decades, Edwards was a trial lawyer in North Carolina, representing personal-injury clients in medical malpractice lawsuits. After the 2004 election, Edwards was hired as a part-time senior adviser to Fortress Investment Group, a publicly owned investment management firm. He also directed the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina School of Law, at Chapel Hill, for one year. His wife, Elizabeth, is also a lawyer.

Presidential Campaign

Edwards declared his candidacy for the presidency on December 28, 2006, in New Orleans, one day after an accidental launch of his campaign website had already done so.  He announced he was ending his campaign on January 30, 2008.
