John McCain - Republican
John McCain, a Republican, is the senior U.S. senator from Arizona. He is making his second White House bid, after seeking the GOP presidential nomination in 2000. From 1983 to 1987, before serving in the Senate, McCain was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Before that, he worked for his father-in-law’s Anheuser-Busch beer distribution company. While in the U.S. Navy, McCain served in Vietnam and was detained as a prisoner of war from 1967 until 1973; he retired as a captain in 1981. His wife, Cindy Hensley McCain, is an advocate for children’s health and the chairwoman of the board of Hensley & Company, the beer distribution company for which her husband once worked.

McCain is the ranking Republican member of the Committee on Armed Services and also is on the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and the Committee on Indian Affairs.
Presidential Campaign
McCain announced the formation of an exploratory committee on November 15, 2006, and on April 25, 2007, he declared his candidacy at a rally in New Hampshire.
