Mike Huckabee - Republican
Mike Huckabee, a Republican, rose from lieutenant governor to governor of Arkansas in 1996 when Governor Jim Guy Tucker was forced to resign following his conviction for conspiracy and mail fraud in the Whitewater scandal. Huckabee was subsequently elected to two full terms as governor. He was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1992 and was elected lieutenant governor in a 1993 special election and the 1994 general election. Prior to holding elected office, Huckabee was a Baptist minister, the president of two television stations, and the president of a communications company. His wife, Janet, was the Republican nominee for Arkansas secretary of state in 2002.
Presidential Campaign
Huckabee announced the formation of an exploratory committee on January 26, 2007. He withdrew from the race on March 4, 2008.
