Ron Paul - Republican
Ron Paul, a Republican, is a U.S. representative from Texas. He is making his second White House bid after running as the Libertarian Party nominee in 1988. An obstetrician and gynecologist, Paul first ran for Congress in 1974 and was first elected in a special election in 1976. Though he was defeated for reelection later that year, he regained the seat in 1978 and held it until 1984. After running in the 1984 U.S. Senate primary, he returned to medical practice. Paul was again elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and has retained his seat since.

Presidential Campaign
Paul announced the formation of an exploratory committee on January 11, 2007, and on March 12 he declared his candidacy on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. He ended his campaign on June 12, 2008.
