Sam Brownback - Republican
Sam Brownback, a Republican, is the senior U.S. senator from Kansas. Before his election to the Senate, Brownback, a lawyer, was a one-term U.S. representative, the Kansas secretary of agriculture, a White House fellow in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and a broadcaster. His wife, Mary, is a homemaker.
Committee Assignments
Brownback is the ranking Republican member of the Joint Economic Committee and is also on the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on the Judiciary.
Presidential Campaign
Brownback announced the formation of an exploratory committee on December 4, 2006, and he declared his candidacy at a rally in Kansas on January 20, 2007. Brownback withdrew from the race on October 19, 2007.
